Gwindorby ~LB82

Re-reading some Tolkien, and remembered how much I liked poor Gwindor. He was a minor, tragic character featured in the Silmarillion, the Lays of Beleriand, Unfinished Tales, The Children of Hurin, the History of Middle-earth... all of which are somewhat different (evolving) versions of the same story, with varying levels of detail.

He is described as “aged,” but I always thought that was a relative term as applied to an Elf, since to their eyes anyone who looks older than 25 would probably appear “aged” by comparison. So I tried to take your typical Elf, put him through a decade and a half of Funtiemz in Angband, and this is what I came up with. Pretty close to the headcanon I've had for him since first reading the Silmarillion back in high school, just took me awhile to get around to drawing him.

And yes... I have a tendency to find secondary characters as being generally more interesting anyway, and that was definitely the case in Turin's story arc.

Absolutely agreed, and he's long been a favorite of mine as well.

Glad you like the sketch! There will probably be more to come, the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales are still occupying the muse's attention, and show no sign of letting go anytime soon...
