Maglor by LB82 Maglor by LB82
One more week until The Hobbit hits theatres! :D To celebrate... here's something from the Silmarillion instead. LOL

Everyone else has already done a version of this, but I hadn't jumped on board yet, so... here 'tis.

Colored pencil and Copics on tinted paper, 8 1/2 x 11".

My heart regularly breaks for Maglor upon seeing excellent pictures of him wandering, and it did so again just now. This is probably one of my favorite pictures of this. It's beautiful. I love the emptiness of it, the starkness and bleakness, particularly that of the sky, symbolizing that Maglor's future is empty, there is nothing left. The only one left.

And you did this in colored pencil... wow...

Thank you so much!  :)

There are more planned from the Silmarillion, and a few from LotR and the Hobbit as well, though I'm not sure when I'll get to them...

You're welcome! :D

It's the same with me, I have so many planned, but it's another matter if I'll have the time to do them.

Aaaah, so soft and pretty. The colors and medium are very effective here. Nicely done :)

I really like this version with, as you say, "less going on", because it's almost exactly like my first time seeing the sea - all around variations on grey and white, and all the vastness of empty space. It's beautiful, nostalgic and sad - very fitting.

Thanks so much!  I wanted the colors to match the tone of the scene, after all the battle and death was over and it was all for nothing... cold and empty seemed to fit more than anything else, and I'm glad it conveys that.  :)

Thanks again!!  More to come, when I get around to finishing a few pics...

Very beautiful and emotional work! One can really feel the wind and hear the sea while looking at this picture. I could stare at it for hours...
